Students looks up words and fill in the blanks about basic questions like: how many definitions are there, what is the adjective form, what are some synonyms, is this word capitalized, what is the verbs irregular past tense, how is the word spoken? 7 questions with 13 answers. 3 dictionary tips.
Worksheet 2 | Scavenger Hunt
Students look up 10 words and fill in 10 blanks to create a message. 3 more tips.
Worksheet 3 | Editing Skills with the Dictionary
-Students look at a question type that appeared on the English 1 2023 STAAR in the editing section. It asked how to spell a word correctly, and this is a FREE point. The tip explains how students can guarantee their success on this type of question. 5 practice questions follow. NOTE: The 5 questions can not be printed. They use the drop down box feature in Word to mimic the STAAR exam which also utilized a drop down box for this question.
–Students then look at how often editing had students decided to change the spelling of a word or not. Students practice this skill with 5 more questions.
-Students then look at how the online dictionary can help with the capitalization editing questions as well. Students practice with 2 questions.
