This is a redesigned STAAR resource with questions stems from TEA’s online reading practice for the 2023 English 1 and English 2. The questions are divided into genres: short stories, poetry, the cross analysis, argumentative text, and informational text. New question types are included! Save time by copying and pasting the question stems and new question types into your current curriculum. Set students up for STAAR success all year!

The table of contents with bookmarks easily allows teachers to jump to whichever genre they need. Simply copy and paste. The English 1 and English 2 genres are back to back in case you want to pull genre-specific questions from both levels. Finally, when applicable, I have added the answer choices and notes that explain concepts being addressed.

Please note: anything that is underlined in the template needs to be replaced with whatever text you are using or whatever skill you are addressing. Additionally, no short constructed responses prompts are included. A separate unit for that can be found here.

It is my hope that this allows you to quickly, easily update your curriculum to better align with the redesigned STAAR English 1 and English 2 reading portion of the exam.
